go time
  TheMusiC, Mar 10 2011

so i set some pretty big goals for myself poker-wise at the beginning of the year, but as it so happens every time i decide i want to invest some serious time into learning this game, real life got in the way (actually i've spent the past month and a half prepping for and applying to grad school). anyway, now that all that shit's done i think i really do have time to dump into something fun, so here we go! spent about 2 hrs playing earlier today 4-tabling NL5 and got in about 500~ hands. up a buy-in so far, felt pretty good about my play. spring break is next week and i'm not going anywhere so hopefully i'll be able to get some good volume in then.

gl all!

halp, leaks
  TheMusiC, Jan 09 2011

so i've been playing a bit since the start of the new year (though not as much as i'd hoped to) and although i'm struggling at times i think i'm doing alright for someone who just started taking this seriously. my biggest leak so far though has been me folding too much to aggression, typically when i cbet and people call/raise and bet me on the turn. as a result, my non-showdown graph is atrocious -- it's basically a line sloping down. i'm thinking maybe i should tighten up my range and pick better spots to bet/play back (although i also have a hard time identifying when i should play back -- when i have, i end up losing on showdown or folding on later streets), or perhaps i'm giving people too much credit for hands?

one situation that i have a LOT of trouble with is when i raise pf and end up flopping second pair, or i raise/3b pf with TT-QQ and an ace or a king comes on the flop. i'm thinking i misplay these a lot, and i end up getting into spots like these:

another spot involves me raising pf with something like AK or KQs (broadways, overcards etc), missing the flop, and then not knowing how to continue if i cbet, get called, and a blank comes on the turn. i know these are pretty broad questions but any guidance is good i suppose.

actually i think i just need to quit playing like a pussy.

also been laying off the hon lately, seems like every time i play tmm with a group of 5 we run into 18/1900+ dudes who force us to play tryhard when all i want to do is chill out and have an ez game ;p

2011 goals!
  TheMusiC, Jan 02 2011

long time LP lurker here, but i guess now is as good of a time as ever to start getting involved. poker has been something that i've always wanted to get into and take more seriously, but for some reason or another i never put in the time or effort required to be a winner at it. a couple of years ago i deposited $50 on stars and donked around at the penny tables (and actually more than doubled that in a couple of months), but after that it was on and off playing. decided to start playing again last month, as it is currently my senior year of college and i'm finding myself with a bit of free time to do whatever since my course load isn't as big. been playing NL5 so far for the past month or so and i'm slightly over breakeven (i suck).

i guess my goals for this yr would be to put in at least 1-2 hrs a day and hopefully beat the micros by summer.

also, if anyone wants to play hon just msg me, my id is the same as it is here. gl to everyone with their new year's goals!
